The recent problems with gadgets seem to be linked to the upgrade of Internet Explorer to v. If your gadgets are resurrected, you'll have to decide which is more important - higher DPI or functioning gadgets. You could also uninstall the IE11 update to restore your previous version pending a potential improvement in a later update.

If you place a Gadget in the top right corner of the Desktop you could accidentally close the Gadget because of its proximity to the Close button for maximised open windows. It makes sense to minimise the risk of accidental closure by placing Gadgets elsewhere on the Desktop. I'm not quite sure which one you're referring to. I use a couple from addgadgets.
The DPI option is no solution for me, and I suspect many others will feel the same. You then need a magnifying glass to read the text under Desktop icons!
I see reverting from Internet Explorer 11 to 10 as a retrograde step so I will not being that. Simpler to just replace the missing gadget from another source. Having devoted quite a bit of time to create a sensible balance on my dual monitors I am not keen to mess around to hang on to one or two replaceable gadgets.
